Google Chrome - Latest Internet Browser to take on Microsoft's Internet Explorer

It has been reported that Google Chrome has topped the list of fastest moving UK search terms for last week. Google Chrome has been launched to compete with Microsoft Internet Explorer which holds over 70% of the Internet Browser market.

When Google unveiled its new browser (2/9/08), it was touted as a faster and more reliable experience for those using the Web for everything from e-mail and word processing, to music and video.

Google have decided to rewrite the Browser from scratch with the goal of creating a simple powerful user experience. Many applications which run in web browsers require intensive processor power, Google have designed Chrome to handle this and prevent crashes by segregating each open browser into a distinct 'sandbox'. This unique set up also helps prevent rogue websites from reaching your computer by keeping any activity restricted to the browser.

According to Google some of the features and benefits of Google Chrome include:

  • Lighting Fast Speed
  • Intuitive design
  • Intuitive, elegant and simple design
  • Create application shortcuts on your desktop
  • Work in alternate tabs whilst others loading
  • Prevents memory jams - can close down problem tabs
  • Search and Address window combined

Google have launched a beta version of Chrome – it will be interesting to follow the developments as it increases competition against Mozilla Firefox which has steadily been taking market share from Microsoft Internet Explorer.
